This is a rare set of "Five Different Worlds Red Garter perfume" in a red and gold box.
There is very little information about this perfume, but a 1967 add indicates that it was once sold at the Red Garter Steakhouse and advertised in Harpers Bazaar. It says, "The most provocative and talked about perfume "RED GARTER" is a devilish tantalizing perfume — so subtle and yet so feminine. Rarely is one perfume singled out for an aura of loveliness, of wickedness — both luring and alluring. Red Garter stirs up excitement. Nationally advertised in Harper's Bazaar. Suggested Retail Price $25. Can be purchased for $6.00 at the Red Garter Steakhouse."
This set is in excellent condition with only slight wear to the bottom of the box and slight wear on the edges of the velvet like interior as pictured. The perfumes seals are open except for #2 is sealed, but they are full and don't look to have been used before (No 1 has slightly less perfume, as pictured in photo 5). Each hold 1/2 oz of 5 different perfumes.
This set is also very special because it came from a large collection of mostly sealed vintage perfume from the West Hollywood estate of Ellen Corby who acted alongside Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart in Sabrina, James Stewart in It's A Wonderful Life, and Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy. She acted in hundreds of films and TV series from the 1930's to the 1990's including The Andy Griffith Show, Lassie, The Addams Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, Bonanza, Dennis The Menace, Hawaii Five-O, The Odd Couple and many many other series and films. However, she was best known for her role as Grandma Esther on the tv series The Walton's of which she was awarded 3 Emmy's for her work.
